Data Scientist – Exothera

Exothera is a viral vector CDMO (contract manufacturing and development organization) using standard and innovative bioproduction platforms to rapidly deliver affordable viral vector-based vaccines and cell and gene therapies.

Exothera is a rapidly growing, dynamic, young organization, part of the Univercells Group. We operate in an environment where every person counts, and teamwork is key to our success. It means that each employee has an opportunity to shine, to be a part of a culture that values enthusiasm, innovation, and problem-solving while supporting our customers through the challenging world of bioprocessing and manufacturing.

Apply and be part of this great adventure!

Exothera intends to establish a platform process for the manufacture of viral vectors, enabling its customers to enter the market rapidly, but also cost-effectively and at the required scale. Curative gene therapies offer a paradigm change for the treatment of unmet medical needs. Because of the urgency, cell & gene therapy developers are rushing their candidates into the clinics. This unfortunately leads to suboptimal manufacturing processes rendering them unscalable, unavailable and unaffordable to large parts of the population.

To reinforce the data management and analysis of our experimental programs and ensure data-driven decision-making during process development, we are recruiting a Data Scientist.

The candidate will operate in a team of experts responsible for implementing and executing methodological and statistical aspects of medicinal product development, with particular focus on the development, optimization and characterization of bioprocessing computational models:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify and monitor the performance of the tools used for data collection, data configuration, data analysis and/or data modeling; and identify opportunities for improvement to meet the predefined quality requirements.
  • Develop or adapt to existing and innovative methods and techniques for data collection in collaboration with operational teams to continuously increase effectiveness and efficiency of relevant statistical methods to contribute to process improvement.
  • Participation in the development of computational models, to serve as an advocate for scientists in development and MSAT teams that will be using these systems.
  • Facilitate implementation and adoption of solutions by serving as a lead user in one or more information systems.
  • Facilitate usage of information systems for scientists in the labs by overseeing the deployment of fit for purpose hardware (i.e. automation, tablets, barcode scanners, touch-screen dashboards) in collaboration with the IT department.
  • Construction and maintenance of dashboards to provide insight into business and scientific concerns.

  • Master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Data Science
  • Programming experience in one or more languages (e.g. Python, SQL, JS, VB.NET)
  • Experience working with information technologies and systems and their applications in CMC activities (e.g. Laboratory Information Management Systems, Electronic Lab Notebooks, Chromatography Data Systems).
  • Experience in assembling, analyzing, and visualizing complex data sets (e.g. Power BI)
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry regulatory framework (ICH Q12), or additional degree in life science is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills – strong focus on data visualization and simplification
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent English skills
  • Problem solving mentality
  • Set priorities and respect tight deadlines
  • Team player
